On the evening of Saturday, March 9th, Saigon’s uber-foodie social scene witnessed a remarkable event in the grand opening celebration of Lesung in District 3. This much-anticipated restaurant drew an illustrious crowd of Ho Chi Minh City and Malaysian luminaries, introducing the rich and authentic flavours of Malaysia to the city, and marking a significant addition to its fabulous global dining landscape.
Lesung is the brain-child of celebrity chef duo Eden Daus and Tommy Tran, who have infused their chicly unpretentious eatery with the warmth and authenticity of home-cooked Malaysian cuisine. Inspired by Chef Eden's grandmother's recipes, Lesung delivers a culinary journey which celebrates, honours and elevates the traditional essence of Malaysian fare.
The event was graced by notables including the Consul General of Malaysia to Vietnam, Mr. Firdauz Othman, Rebecca Ball, Austrade's Senior Trade and Investment Commissioner for Vietnam & Cambodia, legendary Malaysian chef “Aunty Aini” who is credited for teaching Gordon Ramsey how to cook Rendang, alongside a host of Malaysian and Vietnamese celebrities and taste-makers. The soirée was hosted by American F&B KOL Tracie May-Wagner, alongside chef/owners Eden and Tommy, ensuring an fun-filled evening of revelry and gastronomic delight.
Guests at the launch were treated to a heavily passed tasting menu featuring Lesung's beloved signature dishes including Opor Beef Cheek, a spicy and succulent dish slow-cooked in a rich, aromatic sauce, Prawn Sambal Petai, featuring local Vietnamese tiger prawns tossed with Malaysian Letai bitter beans in a fiery sambal sauce, and Mango Kerabu, a beloved Malaysian salad enchanting diners with its fragrant flavours and offering a needed respite to the zesty heat.
The event was further elevated by an exquisite selection of beverages provided by premiere Vietnamese craft beer brand Heart of Darkness and glouglou wines, adding to the festive atmosphere of the grand opening event.
With its inauguration, Lesung has established a benchmark for culinary distinction in Ho Chi Minh City, providing a truly authentic Malaysian dining adventure destined to allure the appetites of those who are lucky enough to visit.
