Tamnavulin
The Spirit Of Speyside In Every Cask

Epicure Vietnam

Nestled along the tranquil banks of the River Livet, Tamnavulin spent nearly half a century quietly crafting spirits for iconic blended whiskies. However, its bold resurgence in 2016 marked a historic turning point: within just four years, Tamnavulin remarkably transformed to become the world’s fastest-growing single malt Scotch whisky.

From blending malt to the world’s fastest-growing single malt

For nearly half a century, Tamnavulin’s spirit went mainly into blended whiskies. The distillery fell silent from 1995 to 2007, and it was not until 2016, marking its 50th anniversary, that Tamnavulin officially released a single malt under its own name.

Just four years later, according to IWSR data, Tamnavulin became the world’s fastest-growing single malt Scotch whisky in 2020. By 2022, the brand was selling around 2.6 million bottles, ranking 15th among the best-selling single malts, and was the number one single malt in Sweden.

A heritage since 1966

Tamnavulin was founded in 1966 in Speyside, in the foothills of the Cairngorm Mountains. It is the only distillery located on the River Livet.

In Gaelic, Tamnavulin means “mill on the hill”, a nod to the woollen mill that once stood on the distillery site.

Water from melting snow

The distillery draws its water from underground springs in the Easterton hills. Formed by mountain snowmelt and naturally filtered through ancient limestone, it helps give the spirit its soft, clean character.

Double cask craft

Tamnavulin Double Cask is matured in American oak, then finished in Oloroso sherry casks, bringing notes of apple, toffee, honey and a hint of marmalade. The Sherry Cask edition is finished in three different types of Oloroso sherry cask for layered sweetness.

When whisky meets wine

Alongside sherry, Tamnavulin has developed a range finished in wine casks, from Cabernet Sauvignon red wine and Sauvignon Blanc white wine to Tawny Port. Each cask leaves its own mark, from red berries and tropical fruit to nutty and caramel notes – creating a natural bridge between the worlds of whisky and wine.

A style made for gatherings

Balanced and approachable, Tamnavulin suits dinners, gatherings and gifting – where newcomers to whisky and seasoned drinkers alike can find something to enjoy.

A legacy carried through generations

From the mill on the hill and snowmelt springs to carefully selected sherry and wine casks, Tamnavulin is a story of patience and the Speyside spirit, preserved over time.
