Once again, the Spanish Gastronomic show “Open Day”, kept its place as a gourmet milestone of the year. Let’s have a look at what this year’s exhibition brought to the spotlight.

Held on Friday 18th July at the prestigious Caravelle Hotel, in Ho Chi Minh City, this year’s “Open Day”, brought together over 200 gourmet industry professionals, from top chefs and F&B directors to retailers aiming to upgrade their offerings for discerning customers.

In recent years, Vietnam has been expanding its vibrant street food culture with more high-end options, driven by a growing class of affluent consumers who are fueling demand for premium and gourmet products — with Spain emerging as a standout source.

Spain’s gourmet presence in Vietnam began many years ago with extra virgin olive oil — a category that remains a cornerstone of its culinary influence. At this year’s “Open Day”, a strong lineup of Spanish olive oil brands and their local distributors was showcased: Atlas Finefood featured La Española, Coosur, and Altivo; Classic Fine Foods introduced Castillo de Canena; Gourmet Partner brought Omed; while New Viet Dairy presented Rafael Salgado and Sabroso.

In the opinion of the Spanish Economic and Commercial Office of the Spanish Embassy in Vietnam, organizers of the event, even though extra virgin olive oil is currently well distributed in the country, there is a lot of potential for expansion. Olive oil offers diverse flavors depending on the olive and region, subtleties still to be discovered by Vietnam’s emerging gourmet consumers.

Another jewel of the Spanish gastronomy, Iberico Pork, also made a strong impression at the exhibition. Known for its rich flavour and marbled texture, it’s prized by gourmets and valued for its healthy monounsaturated fats, similar to those found in olive oil. Several companies showcased the zenith of Iberico Pork, its ham, like Classic Fine Foods with La Prudencia, Food Mart with Nico Jamones, Sol & Mar, Artysan or La Alegria, Gourmet Partner with Casalba and Tinh Hoa Toan Cau with Deraza and Montesano. But the Iberico selection didn’t stop at ham or cold cuts. Gourmet Partner, New Viet Dairy, and Tinh Hoa Toan Cau featured their range of Iberico meat, internationally celebrated and increasingly sought after by restaurants and hotels.

As the world’s biggest producer of wine, of course there was an outstanding representation of Spanish wineries in the exhibition. So Sexy Wines, showed up with many different wines from world famous wineries such as Pesquera, Sierra Cantabria, Cubero, Langa, El Puntido, Pinna Fidelis, Torremorón, Luzón, Sandara, Vicente Gandia, Yllera… to cite but a few. In addition, New Viet Dairy and Tinh Hoa Toan Cau offered tastings from their own wine portfolios.

One new sector in this edition was bakery and sweets. Hann highlighted its sourdough croissants from the Panamar Bakery Group in Spain, while Hyperion introduced its candies from collaborations with Vidal, Lacasitos or Warheads, as well as introduced themselves as the new representatives of Gullón.

With this last edition, Open Day 2025 confirms its role as a key gathering for the gourmet sector and a sign of the market’s growth and industry commitment in Vietnam.
