There is something wonderfully evocative about discovering a country through scent and flavour. A curl of citrus peel. The perfume of jasmine. The warmth of pepper. The lingering fragrance of tea.

For Lady Triệu Gin, these are more than botanicals. They are fragments of Vietnam.

Named after Bà Triệu, the legendary third-century Vietnamese warrior celebrated for her courage, pride and pioneering spirit, Lady Triệu was conceived as an exploration of the country’s extraordinary flavours, culture and character. Produced in small batches by a local distillery team in rural Củ Chi, its gins draw upon botanicals sourced from farms, village markets and cooperatives across Vietnam.

At its heart is Contemporary Vietnam Gin, a vibrant expression built around ingredients including sweet orange peel, hibiscus, oolong tea, long red pepper, jasmine, cubeb, kumquat and juniper. Citrus arrives first, followed by warming spice, fragrant botanicals and a delicately dry aromatic tea finish. It feels unmistakably contemporary, yet its identity remains rooted in the landscape from which it comes.

That dialogue between place and palate becomes even more expressive through The Lab Series, a collection inspired by distinct regions of Vietnam.

Mekong Delta Dry Gin layers kumquat and sweet orange with cassia and wild forest pepper, echoing the abundance of the fertile south. Dalat Flowerbomb Gin turns towards the misty Central Highlands, where lotus, jasmine and chrysanthemum create a distinctly floral expression.

Further north, Sapa Citrus Tea Gin combines oolong tea with mac mat, Buddha’s hand, pomelo and warming pepper, evoking the aromatic character of Vietnam’s mountainous landscapes. Meanwhile, Hoi An Spice Road Gin recalls the ancient trading port through ginger, black cardamom, lime and spice, a contemporary nod to centuries of exchange.

Together, the collection becomes an unexpected liquid map of Vietnam.

There is also something distinctly modern about Lady Triệu’s interpretation of provenance. Rather than reproducing a European idea of gin in an Asian setting, the brand allows Vietnam to lead the conversation. Familiar juniper becomes a canvas upon which indigenous and locally sourced flavours can speak.

That approach has travelled well beyond Vietnam. Lady Triệu has collected international recognition, including gold medals at The Spirits Business Global Gin Masters, Frankfurt International Trophy, Asia Spirits Challenge and Asia International Spirits Competition in 2023.

Yet medals tell only part of the story.

The greater pleasure lies in the glass itself: perhaps served simply with tonic and fresh Vietnamese herbs, or transformed by a mixologist into something more elaborate. Each pour offers a small journey through the country, its orchards, mountains, flowers, spices and creative confidence.
