Fall in love with the world all over again by staying at these recently opened hotels in New York, Algarve and Bali.

AMAN NEW YORK

As the second pioneering generation of Aman hotel in urban settings, Aman New York beautifully transformed Manhattan’s iconic Crown Building into a 83-suite hotel and 22 branded residences. Built in 1921, the building is located on the corner of 57th Street and Fifth Avenue. Inspired by the airy aesthetic of Aman’s properties in Southeast Asia, each suite is a serene sanctuary featuring a captivating large-scale mural by Japanese artist Ryoko Adachi, a homage to a 15th-century masterpiece, Pine Trees by Hasegawa Tōhaku.

A functioning fireplace, opulent oval soaking bathtubs, and expansive double vanities offer guests a comfortable respite. The hotel houses a 2,300-square-metres Aman Spa, a comprehensive embodiment of Aman’s wellness philosophy. It features a 20-metre indoor swimming pool, two Spa Houses made of double treatment rooms, Banya and Hammam rooms, and outdoor terraces with hot and cold plunge pools.

RUDY TAUSCHER, MANAGING DIRECTOR OF AMAN NEW YORK

“The hotel is a tribute to the original Gilded Age architectural splendour while bringing the harmonious design ethos for which Aman is renowned. Aman New York is also home to the first Aman Club lounge and the world’s first urban Aman Residences, a collection private homes placing owners in the centre of the city’s skyline. Aman New York houses four distinct dining destinations, including Arva, Aman’s convivial Italian restaurant; Nama, Aman’s interpretation of Japan’s washoku dining tradition; and Wine Library.

All are linked by a lush wraparound Garden Terrace with reflective pools, dramatic firepits and one-of-a-kind retractable roof allowing a year-round access. There is an exclusive Jazz Club where guests are invited to enjoy world-class live performances in a reinvented classic New York experience. The hotel is also pleased to welcome to the team master sommelier Laura Williamson as beverage director. She will bring her expertise to all beverage programmes throughout the hotel.”

W ALGARVE

The first W Hotel to open in Portugal offers 134 guest rooms and suites along with 83 residences. Situated atop the cliffs, it injects the laid-back coastal vibe with exuberant social energy. It derives its interior design inspiration from the curves of Benagil caves and the blues of the Atlantic Ocean. Designed by the award-winning AB Concept, the decor pays homage to the age old craftsmanship, from crochet to ceramic tiles. All rooms offer private balconies with gardens or ocean views, done in natural hues and tasteful clean maximalism.

The jewel of the crown is the Extreme WOW Suite, a 200-square-metre oceanside presidential suite with its own panoramic rooftop terrace, a zero-edge lap pool and DJ mixing booth. Led by Portugese chef Nuno Goncalves, there are six dining destinations within the hotel. Well-being receives extra attention at Away Spa’s facilities as well as the state-of-the-art fitness equipment at Fit, the hotel’s indoor and outdoor fitness centre.

CAJETAN ARAUJO, GENERAL MANAGER OF W ALGARVE

“In a region where every other hotel’s architecture is traditional, W Algarve is resolutely modern while combining the region’s rich history, culture and colours in subtle touches which are displayed all around the Escape. W Algarve represents everything that is Portuguese. Even our uniforms are designed by one of the top Portuguese designers, Gio Rodrigues. Our F&B offerings are innovative and yet comforting. We set new trends like featuring foraging-inspired mixology at W Lounge, with cocktails like Carob, highlighting a Mediterranean fruit that has been used to feed humans and livestock since antiquity.

The Market Kitchen showcases local produce, strictly sourced from local farms and small producers. Milanese cuisine is featured at our rooftop dining destination, Paper Moon. The Calamaro Alla Piastra Del Portogallo is a must-try. World-class DJs perform at the adjacent Sea Sky until late. For nourishing dining options with Asian twists, guests can go to Sip @ Wet at Wet Deck.”

LOST LINDENBERG

Fall under the charm of the island all over again at this hidden boutique hotel in Pekutatan, West Bali. Situated just a stone’s throw away from Medewi Beach and its legendary waves, the fifth project from a progressive Frankfurt-based hospitality company takes its inspiration from the forces of nature surrounding its property.

Enjoy peace and quiet amid the magnetic black sand beach, where stories are told around bonfires at night. Designed by Alexis Dornier and Studio Jencquel, the architecture resembles a string of floating towers – treehouses connected by elevated walkways.

Sustainably sourced wood, local green stones and brass are used, seamlessly blending the property with its verdant locale. There are eight rooms, two Ocean Panorama Suites and six Jungle Panorama Suites. Tactile dark lava stone, burnt teak wood, linen bedding, custom-made Gaya ceramics, and curated artworks by Indonesian and international artists decorate the rooms. Relax the body with a treatment at the bijou spa, built in the style of a traditional wooden house. Nourish the palate with plant-based fare at the restaurant.

DENISE OMURCA, MANAGING DIRECTOR OF LOST LINDENBERG

“The property is a symbiosis between sophisticated architecture, thoughtful design and collective spaces. Meals can be shared at the hotel’s communal seven-metre-long wooden table. The culinary concept celebrates nature by using seasonal and local produce, offering a plant-based approach to Balinese home-cooking with western influences. All ingredients are cultivated at our Lost garden or sourced from nearby organic permacultures. Start your day with a house-made granola, tropical fruits and coconut French toast for breakfast. Dinner is made of sumptuous rice plates with a variety of spicy sambals. The poolside bar serves classic long drinks, local kombuchas and seasonal cocktails.”
